Coreless direct drive motor for stable rotation

Concept of Coreless Direct Drive Motor

The direct drive system uses a slowly rotating motor to directly drive the platter. This system has a number of advantages. It offers high efficiency such as rotation accuracy and peak torque, does not require replacement of parts and ensures high reliability for a long time. On the other hand, using a direct drive system used to cause cogging. A new direct drive coreless motor was therefore developed for the SL-1200MK7. This motor uses a coreless stator. By removing the iron core from the stator, the speed fluctuation was also eliminated. Furthermore, we increased the strength of the rotor magnet to the highest possible level and optimized the gap between the coreless stator and the rotor magnets. We have thus achieved a high torque comparable to the SL-1200MK5 model. This motor boasts smooth rotation and strong rotational momentum, and is thus capable of accurately and faithfully reproducing the sound from the groove of an analog record.

Torque / Brake Speed ​​Adjustment

The latest digital motor control technology derived from the development of Blu-ray Disc products brings improvements in the form of individually adjustable torque and brake speed in four steps.

Pitch control function

The pitch control function enables fine-tuning of the rotation speed in the range of ±8% / ±16%. This is achieved by digitally controlling everything from rider position detection to motor rotation control, avoiding unnecessary digital-to-analog conversion. This significantly improves motion tracking to achieve accurate and stable pitch settings.

Reverse playback function

The reverse playback function, bringing new creative possibilities, appears for the first time in the SL-1200 series. Along with a speed of 33-1/3 rpm. and 45 rpm a rotation speed of 78 rpm is supported.

*Brake torque/speed setting, rotation speed switch and reverse playback can be adjusted using the switches on the main unit.

Bringing confidence to top performers on the DJ scene for many years, the arm is our proven and highly reliable universal static ace arm. Thanks to the extremely precise bearings, the arm achieves a higher initial sensitivity of movement than in the case of the SL-1200MK6 model. This makes it possible to precisely follow the groove of the turntable and thus ensure an excellent sound with maximum reduction of unwanted needle movements even in demanding conditions such as scratching.

The needle lighting uses new contact technology for intuitive control and uses a high-brightness, long-life LED. The area and intensity of the illumination have been modified to offer better visibility of the needle tip even in dark environments.

Power connector / phono connector

The power connector and the phono connector allow the cables to be disconnected. Phono connectors are gold-plated, so there is minimal degradation of sound quality. The ability to disconnect the cables from the connectors makes cable maintenance much easier.

The turntable frame is essential for reducing external vibrations and therefore uses technology to improve sound quality perfected in the development of high-end turntables. The cast aluminum frame is combined with a special ABS material combined with glass fibers to create a two-layer construction. The combination of this special high-rigidity material with a metal frame increases rigidity and brings more effective vibration damping, resulting in a robust cabinet for perfect sound reproduction. The isolator is made up of a combination of spring and rubber ensuring optimal frequency characteristics. This guarantees not only high sound quality and excellent response resistance, but also effective playing against external vibrations even at high sound levels.
